Neca have surpassed themselves. I sold all but three of my action figures (you know, the ‘adult’ kind) last year, but have broken my non-buying streak in buying this. So long have I wanted a decent Terminator figure. I remember years ago when McFarlane Toys released theirs, it didn’t have his face due to licensing issues. Then they got the rights to T3, but who wants anything to do with that in their house? Now, a full 18 years later, we finally have a decent range of T2 memorabilia for the casual collector.
The sculpt is great for this figure. Arnie’s figure is captured perfectly, from the size of his arms to the creases in his leathers. The head sculpt is truly amazing. Neca have had some problems for the past few years with low quality control in their factories (starting with the truly disappointing Reservoir Dogs toys, if I remember correctly) but there’s no issue here- crucially, the paint is also applied perfectly, to the face at least. The blood on the endo-arm is applied a tad liberally but it still looks great.
Articulation-wise, it’s limited, but there’s not much you’d want it do that it can’t, and it’s not like its for playing with anyway. Inexplicably, he’s packaged with a pistol, despite the fact he should probably be holding either a knife or nothing at all. Still, a minor gripe.
The best figure in the series is the Pescadero Escape one (you know, leather jacket, shotgun, sunglasses), which is being made available as a full 12″ later this summer, so I limited myself to just getting this from the smaller range, especially as the Endoskeleton figure is rubbish. Certainly worth picking up if you’re a fan, collector or whatnot. I can confirm that it’s well made, painted and packaged, and looks great. Buy.
