@MrConfused To my knowledge only two prints of this film exist (on reels) in the private collections of two collectors. Thats “to my knowledge” there might be more prints out there but I’ve never heard of any besides what Jerry has in the vault.
Is it possible to trade if you still have a copy? I have a rare chinese vcd of Love God by Frank Grow.
Babs, if this movie were ever released it would be a blockbuster. Andy Kaufman could finally come out of hiding and host the international premiere in Paris. Jerry’s schmaltzy and Percodan inspired comedy at a faux death camp for kids is truly a John Waters’ wet dream.
Well, if anyone finds this, they deserve a cash reward.
Babbette,I gotta say you are definetly an original, intresting person!!! Keep it it up and enjoy yourself!!!
Hello, enjoyed thereview, May I ask where I might see a glimpse of this?
i jhave read the screen play on line and wow, VERY dark.
I would welcome a lead to whome I may contact for my own research.
Thanks
Tom
I’ve only heard to two prints of these reels. Theyre both on the west coast. There might be more but I’ve never heard of them. Jerry certainly will never let this film be released in any form & collectors arent about to make copies because the value of the film is in its rarety. Perhaps once Jerry dies the print that is archived will escape. We’ll see.
Babette,I gotta say I have only heard of this movie over the years and it must have been quite a coup to be one of the few to see (endure) this movie, even though it will likely never be finished!!
“Get a personality and Mingle” -LOVE IT! LMAO
You are awesome Babette
Obviously Jerry never intends ANYONE 2 see this film… Duh! When I tell people 2 “hunt it down” I’m making them awhere of the films existence & telling them 2 do exactly what I did “hunt it down” among collectors. I’m going 2 review loads of rare & unreleased movies, if ya think that is bragg’n, dont watch! I’m sure you have a very hard time connecting with rare film collectors & cinemaphiles, heck, I’ve only talked 2 you twice & you’ve convinced me you’re a creep. Get a personality & mingle.
I’m sorry… clearly I “miss read” your use of the phrase “you should hunt it down” on your video, where one could very easily and obviously get some impression that whatever you’ve seen is out there to “hunt down”… if you saw it, or claim to have seen it, at some private party, then what you’re doing is simply bragging about that. Only saw two reels? Then you saw something Jerry never intended to have released in the form you saw it in, or you saw those printed negatives Jerry didn’t keep.
yes55, perhaps you miss read what I do… I review obscure & hard to find films from the fringes of cinema… if you’re expecting to be able to run out & rent the movies I review, you came to the wrong place. I am unapologetically for serious devotees of strange films that are hard to find. I will often review films that I have seen which are unreleased or only availible only through collectors. Thats just the way I roll baby!
Yes55 I can tell you exactly how much of this film exists. 2 reels & snipets of a third… there R several missing scenes throughout. Its most definitely a working print. The difference between this film & “Life is Beautiful” is tone & taste. This movie contains flat out slap stick comedy. Scenes where Jerry’s teeth are knocked out or he where he puts on frozen clothing are given a three stooges treatment while then juxopposed against the bleakness of the camp & death. Its a VERY strange film.
Harry Shearer, the very well-known comedian, is one of the few people who has publicly claimed to see this Lewis film who probably really has actually seen it… it isn’t some limited release type of affair that one can simply “hunt down” as this person puts it, and I have serious doubts that this Babs person has, in fact, seen it… in fact, nothing but a very rough cut of the thing probably actually exists. The general concept is no longer so strange since “Life Is Beautiful” anyhow.
Awesome review well done
oh my goddess!! I have to see this film!!! I just…HAVE to……
I almost crapped my pants when I read the title of this review! Please send me a copy, I’ll pay!!!
Awsome review Babs.
