If Jonestown is shut down then why is Google Earth blocking the view?
great to hear from a “DEFECTOR” from Jonestown
gatorfan- can i ask your source for that information? wanna know more!
Jsoerand… he manipulated them by controlling their info, they werern’t allowed to watch tv,read the press or listen to the radio , they believed he was protecting them when he was actually preventing them from seeing what a monster he was.He manipulated them using fear, told them they were mercenaries in the jungle ready to kill them. They worked long days so that they hardly had any time to think.People need to read Steve Hassan B.I.T.E model of how mind control works before they judge.
@Jsoerand…I understand your frustration at trying to convince people that the followers of People’s Temple were not idiots.Being formerley associated with a destructive cult I can confirm that it is so easy to get in and so unbelievably difficult to leave. These people were deceived and manipulated. You have doubts but rationalize them because of the paralyzing fear of what would happen if you leave and like you said the believe in a dream of living in an ideal world.
Respect them for what they originally tried to do (create a place were all were equal, no matter race, a place were everyone was cared for and loved) and mourn them, and remember so it does not happen again!!! But these were real people, not just some for you to make fun of and joke about 30 years later. It was not suicide, people were murdered! REMEMBER!!!
When in the jungle the only “news” they got were told from Jim Jones, he was telling them that USA and Britain were sending all african americans and indians out of the countries. He told them that the cia were after them, he sent people out in the jungle around the camp to shoot in at the camp…so people believed they were being attacked, people believed the only news they got. 909 people died have some respect for them, don’t just call them nutjobs and say they had it coming!
When things got a little strange, they shook it off because they were still believing in the dream they shared with 1000’s of other people.
It was not untill they were deep in the jungle, cut off from family, the media etc that it went completly wrong. They didn’t go there thinking they couldn’t leave when they wanted to. They didn’t go there to get away from a police state. They went to build a dream. They went to build a place were they could live the way they wanted to.
RGpranin, you are ignorant!!! Have some respect please.
They joined together because they truly believed they were making a difference, that they were making the world a better place. They went to guyana because they saw that there they could be left alone to pursue the dream they had of unity across races and they could be alone while doing so.
cia mind control gone bad.Had to stop moscone and ryan…and did
Fair enough. I was 12 when it happened so I remember it vividly. I am 43 now but I get your point.
Not to discredit the hip hop generation ( which I am a part of) in now way, but I bet if you asked most kids what comes to mind when they hear the name Jim Jones or Jonestown, they would not know what you were referring to. I have been a Jim Jones fan for over ten years, and not one of his lyrics make referrence to the cult leader like many rappers who do affiliate themselves with famous mobsters or gangsters. No need to change the name. Purely coincidence.
Wether he chose the name or not, rappers still have a choice about what they go by. Even if that was my real name, I think I’d change it just to get rid of the stigma attched to it.
I thought the rapper just happened to have the same name. Now that it seems he CHOSE the name, shows what an uneducated, sick individual he really is. Thanks for the info.
one thing CNN forgot to mention was that the Survivors of Jonestown tried to sue the US government back in 1986 over some BS claim that was later thrown out and had no merit to be appealed. can’t give detail but it might be that they think the CIA was involved yeah lets see backin the late 70 we where in the height of the cold war and our CIA has time to worry about a bunch of burn outs.
Funny thing is that the members of Jonestown ran back to the same government that they said was a evil police state to help get them out of Jonestown. This is why I have no sympathy for them they rant about how bad our system is then then once the Kool aid wore off down in Jonestown what did they do Beg the same government they said they wanted nothing to do with to help get them away from there Great spiritual leader. BS these people would have been future ACORN workers bent on trashing the US.
I don’t feel any sympathy for the idiots that followed Jones to the grave. they viewed the US as a Militant police state and that was there reason for leaving. They gave jones all there money he told them where to live what job they where gonna do and he forced them to listen to his political rant 24/7 surrounded by armed guard (Red Brigade) oh and Jones could sleep with any man’s wife. Yeah that sounds a lot better than the police state of the USA that they left. I didn’t shed 1 tear for them
I re-watched this last night, and I got sick to my stomach. I imagined myself as a survivor, and I felt terrible, almost cried, but the way I felt was probably only 1/1,000,000 of what the survivors feel. What a psycho maniac. What kind of person would do this to 900+ people? My thoughts and prayers go out to these poor survivors who are suffering from emotional trauma.
yeah i was watching this earlier cuz all i could find was disney stuff, and i wasn’t in the mood and it was so sad, i practically started crying, why would you kill children like that? that’s evil, and, i kno i probly dont have much say in this cuz i’m only 11, but, so what, that doesn’t take away the fact this crazy man killed all these people and a ton of kids who had no chance in this world! and forcing ppl to leave BEHIND their kids? seriously what was going through his head when he did this
libatako, the rapper Jim Jones did not intentionally take the cult leader’s Jim Jone’s name for publicity. The rapper’s government name is Joseph Guillermo Jones II, and was nicknamed Jimmy as a kid. He shortened the nickname but in no way to be affiliated with the cult leader.
I don’t think they’ll ever make a movie on this event other than what’s already out there. The reason is simple, there’s no happy endings here, just death and questions. Even Schindlers list made a point of showing a happy ending with survivers of the camps going to Shindlers grave. The story is just too negative.
and you know whats funny and sick?….some dumb ass rapper took the name of jim jones just for the publicity…..
I still prefer Witness to Jonestown.
They gotta make a movie like a good produced and directed movie of this story ..
this what u get get when u mix religion with a physco path
