Mar 4th, 2010 by MrCult
This is part 1 of the entire PBS Documentary of Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple. Featuring never-before-seen footage, this documentary delivers a startling new look at the Peoples Temple, headed by preacher Jim Jones who, in 1978, led more than 900 members to Guyana, where he orchestrated a mass suicide via tainted punch. Those who hate God love death
Proverbs 8:36
@JacobsJaffa
except Jesus Died and Rose again, Jones Died, and well stayed dead.
Jesus never asked his followers to commit suicide, never asked them to do anything that harmed themselves, or anyone else, No Jesus said so you dont have to die, I will die in your place for all of you, the greatest self sacrifice ever. Jones was a completely 180 of Jesus Christ, and its Blasphemy to even mention it, be-careful what you say, we will be held accountable for every word we speak.
What about every single person living in Britain and America today. who have let Bush and Blair kill hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civillians? It takes a lot of bottle and heart to stand up to the establishment, not many people are capable or even willing.
AAA FUCKIN MEN!
I hold all the adult members of his followers as much as Jim Jones. This is what happens when you put your common sense aside and stop thinking for yourself. There were signs that this was not a holy man from very early on. There are people who have lived daily under the most horrible of circumstances and they fight for their famalies, these people passively killed their children with no direct threat.
You haven’t a clue about Jesus Christ–I wonder if you even have a clue about Jim Jones, CIA guy.
Jones and Christ were identical except that we have seen through Jones and are able to view his cult from the outside in.
We are stil inside the cult of Christianity, that is the difference.
He promoted his image, sayings and simple sayings of others that reflected his ideas. The idea of establishing a paradise on earth is completely foreign to the bible. His voice was broadcast through a PA 24 hours a day at the camp he created. Like so many tyrants, he had many wives fathered lots of children, may have had sex with children. He was a cult leader/dictator/tyrant/false God. Jim Jones was the polar opposite of Christ.
Jones was not a Christian. Jones stood before his followers and tore up a bible saying that his word was better than Gods. Jones idolized Mao. He died his hair black to look Asian. He named his church The Peoples Temple after the Peoples Republic of China. Jones openly advocated Communism.
Jones wanted people to follow him and his word, not Gods.
@crackmunch no thanks
No one had any way of knowing what Jim Jones was planning that night, jazzy.
Do you think the Congressman and the newscrew and his assistant would have left if they had known that 916 American citizens were going to be slaughtered that night?
these cult leaders are morons and their followers are stupid idiots!!!
@purplemyfav1… to determine whether a cult is destructive you don’t look on beliefs,there are a lot of destructive cults with orthodox teachings.You have to look on behaviour.Separating members of families or friends (socially or/and physically. Cults are more sophisticated today, a group’s members can still live n conventional society and be destructuvive. eg Scientology Saying everyone outside the group is evil,instilling petrifying fear of what will happen if one leaves etc
yes, I agree. A major definition of cult is a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
@crackmuch…says people who have been in both dear.People who have been in cults and legitimate religions and experienced what both are like,as I have, will tell you there is a huge difference.There is a huge difference between the two and if you take the time to do your research you will sound less ignorant
check out
‘the virus of religion’ on youtube.
jim jones look like norman bates @ 9 :30
says who? I think Christianity and all monotheistic religions are destructive cults. None of them are legitimate. Anytime someone makes an attempt to organize , its becomes a vehicle for someone’s agenda. now piss off
one man escaped jonestown and left his son behind i couldn’t of left my kids like that i thought that was messed up for him to do that shit either we gone escape together or die together
@crackmuch… people’ s temple was not a legitimate religion,it was a destructuve cult… do your research there is a HUGE difference
@deathbymessenger False. Jim Jones was not a Christian in practice, at all. There are multiple recorded incidences of him speaking out against Christianity, the Bible in particular.
@juan5557903 We watched it in Behavioral Studies- I’m a junior. Same reaction here.
organized religion is one of the worst ideas humans ever came up with. Perfect example.
To Hookies: Blaming communists for this tragedy by calling Jones a communist is equal to other users saying Christianity is bad because Jones was a Christian.
And on the topic: Many, many evil people were true believers in Christianity.
Your yelling at people for generalizing entire groups – then you do exactly the same thing.
Lol.. I was just joking around..
I wasnt trying to be rude or anything.
Im not like that…
