At 17, Diane Benscoter joined The Unification Church — the religious cult whose members are commonly known as Moonies. After five long years, her distressed family arranged to have her deprogrammed. Benscoter then left The Unification Church, and was so affected by her experience that she became a deprogrammer herself. She devoted her time to extracting others from cults, until she was arrested for kidnapping. The shock of her arrest caused her to abandon her efforts for almost 20 years. Now, after decades of research and study, Diane has begun to speak about her experiences. She recently completed a memoir describing her years as a member of The Unification Church and as a deprogrammer. Furthermore, she has embarked on a new project to define extremist viral memetic infections. She believes that defining extremism as a memetic infection, from a cognitive neurological perspective, might allow us to develop better memes that would inoculate against the memes of extremist thought. These inoculating memes could prevent the spread of extremist viral memetic infections and their inherent dangers.
Racket, are these the words of a Landmark graduate I’m reading? Isn’t the use of such a word indicative of someone’s mind being influenced by an ideology designed to make you think their way? I’ve done it too, don’t get me wrong, I understand, and I do not believe Landmark is a cult, because unfortunately, it doesn’t work as effectively as one. But is AA and others really closer to cults than Landmark is, or not?
Aha! This explains how Twelve-Step programs have convinced millions to believe in a nonexistent “disease” that is very little diffeent from the medieval notion of “demonic possession”. Like a “demon”, the “disease” is said to have an invisible body and mind of its own (it’s “doing pushups in the parking lot”, it “wants to kill you”). Trouble is, there is no “disease”. There is culture and socialization, those are real, but there is no “disease”. It’s a racket.
When you surrender yourself to God, your problems don’t just go away. In some cases they get worse.

You are correct. But some deprogrammers like alien8ted I believe are trying to help. At least I think. Most people who really believe in Good and Evil sometimes desperately try and proove that Good and Evil exists just by doing terrible things, but once it boils down to the truth. Like Kenneth Clark says on his last episode of Civilisations series is that “they are ignorant as swans.”

None of you understand how memetics and deprogramming mean. While memetics are a psuedoscience but there is some logic to it, humans are easily changed, humans are “sheep” when it comes to beliefs (i.e. Nazi Germany, Jonestown, even Christianity, etc.) Deprogramming IS kidnapping, I do not agree with it but they do good sometimes, as long as the ‘cultists’ are willing, and there are deprogrammers working in the government (not the the government is always right.)

I think this is actually a Theory for now. You are correct, there is no evidence in this video, but she has a good point about the circleogical part of the brain. We do need to look further into this topic, I believe its still important. Weather you disagree or not.

Yes, memetics are a pseudoscience. She’s also glossing over the fact that deprogrammers are, in fact, kidnappers, most unskilled and unprofessional, and use intensive brainwashing techniques to “deprogram” people. The unfortunate fact is that human belief systems are pretty arbitrary and what is socially undesirable is usually just the minority belief system.

Geez… I can’t believe that people who believe in the scientific method actually are buying this BS. Really? Do you honestly think that attending ws and hearing a different philosophy can actually alter your brain waves? Also, she provides no evidence of her claim. She just says “I believe that my brain was modified. I have no proof of this…” Aren’t atheists supposed to be all about scientific claims over baseless ones? I find it hilarious how these tormented humans like to play charry picking from other comments that actually made more sense then the tormented comments. It just shows that ALIEN8TED is absolutely correct about Christianity and all religion. Its easy to charry pick but harder to understand that there is no God or evil force out to get us. We are all individuals that have the power to think for ourselves and we don’t need a “God” and you know it.
Which Jesus? As soon as you answer this question you have created a religion. The Jesus of traditional Christianity is just the winner of a forth century popularity contest. See the Council of Nicaea. Your Jesus just seems to be one based around your personal experiences and one stripped of all historical context. Thats a poor way to discover truth.
There is only truth. There can’t be many versions of truth. There is either truth or falsity. When you know the truth, it will set you free and open your eyes to the false.

Sounds good, except for he fact that many who claim to find their truth through the same means as you, come to many different versions of truth. Its a convenient test for truth that is incapable of outside verification. Funny that God doesnt need religion, since his only method of communicating his message lends itself so well to its creation.
Through having a spiritual relationship with God you come to know Him and after receiving His Spirit (The Holy Spirit / The SPIRIT OF TRUTH who is given to those who know Him), You are able to distinguish the true from the false. The Holy Spirit also convicts you of your wrong doings and comforts you during difficult times. Leads you into ALL TRUTH.
Are you saying that the only thing your God requires of you is that you have a relationship with him, but that he isnt concerned with your particular views on theology. The apostle Paul filled quite a few pages of the bible trying to get people to believe in the correct God, not just the feel good God you seem to be preaching. You criticize man made religion. But how are you making the distinction between the beliefs men have created and the teachings that you assume come from God.
Religion is a curse, God is a curse. These silly humans claim that there is no proof of evolution but yet there is no proof of God either. All we ever do is talk shit. Cults that use political ideals as their base are well known throughout history. Hitler’s Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Communist USSR were classic examples of mind control on a very large scale. On smaller scales white and black supremacists, terrorists, and rebel groups commonly use forms of mind control to recruit and dominate their members.
The only RELIGION that MAN HAS CREATED and GOD ACCEPTS is the religion that feeds the hungry, helps the poor, and takes care of widows according to the scriptures.
GOD HAS NO RELIGION.
