Not quite a final Creedence Clearwater Revival gig 1988
Sep 6th, 2010 by MrCult
Here’s an obscure musical performance I stumbled upon. I was told this was the very last performance of Creedence Clearwater Revival in November 1983. If this was correct, it would have been the 20th reunion of the class of 1963 from the El Cerrito High School at the Concord Inn in El Cerrito, CA. However, I’ve been informed that this is actually the 1988 25th anniversary of the 1963 class of El Cerrito High School. This would be a semi-reunion of Creedence Clearwater Revival, featuring only John Fogerty and Doug Clifford. Stu Cook was not part of this event, nor was Tom Fogerty. The band was not billed as CCR, but the original band name of the Blue Velvets. They perform 4 songs on this video – Born On The Bayou, Bad Moon Rising, Baby What do you Want Me to Do, and Good Golly Miss Molly. The quality is mediocre, and I have no idea who the original camera operator was. This multi-generation copy is believed to be in the public domain after having been shared from one archivist to another. The title credit at the front of this video is WRONG. If you can provide any additional information about this event or whoever shot this video, the forum is YOURS…

LOL! Holy shit! Look at all of that awkward dancing! That is the WORST!
@Chrisdrumz
LOL I seen the “white boy shuffle”
Back in the 80’s I worked for a guy who was there for his 20 year reunion. When he came into work the following Monday he was bouncing off the walls, he said it was amazing. Everyone was surprised that they showed up to the reunion then they asked the band if they could sit in and they began to jam. It was completly impormptu and he said they sounded as good as ever and never skipped a beat.
Interesting that he bothered to change guitars for Good Golly Miss Molly. Odd if these are the only four songs they played with the house band that night. There must have been more.
Doug Clifford looks like he got his ass kicked, wtf happened?
@hellyeah2299 El Ceritto High School Class Reunion where they went to school (San Fran East Bay). Is that cool or what?
God I’d love to get this on tape or DVD. This has to be during the period he was being sued by the record company and could not record or perform as himself because he sounded to much like himself. If you dont know what I mean look it up. John got sued when he released an album on his own because he sounded to much like he did when he recorded with CCR. I believe it was the album that he released The Old Man Down the road hit single on.
@hellyeah2299
If you check it out, John got sued by the record company, and was not allowed to record anything for some time. I suspect that he was also told he could not tour as well. So He had to pay the bills, a Gig is a Gig when ya need money.
He was left virually broke by the record company. He parted ways with his brother Tom and the rest of the band on very soure terms.
If you get a chance see if you can find the Country Cross Roads segment. It explains some of this.
Who the hell are they playing for? Is this the 1988 nursing home bash or what?
Actually, the lead guitar solo in “Good Golly Miss Molly” is WILD!! Thanx for posting!
this is excellent quality..crisp on the high end sound, with decent video.
@wopman1010 thats cause Fogerty whiped his ass before the performance.
Nada peor que un blanco para bailar rock and roll
That’s awesome. I suppose hugely successful people often attend reunions, but do they typically perform at the reunion?? In any event, this looks like the coolest reunion of all time. They sound great.
Jimmy Reed
John…..he’s got a solo career and he’s doing GREAT!
That’s where they met. Blows me away that CCR, Metallica and Green Day all lived within a few miles of El Cerrito
didn’t most of the folks from CCR go to El Cerrito high?
Jesus! CCR performing at the highschool reunion!
Man, these people are blessed with heaven.
You do know that this was at his 20th high school reunion. In 88 he was still playing large venues supporting his Eye of the Zombie record.
Woww, CCR were GOOD!! John Fogarty is definitely one of the most under-rated songwriters, singers and guitarists ever. Shame to see him wasted at a place like this, when there’s other footage of CCR playing huge stadiums.
Wonder what he’s doing now?
Thanks for posting this!
Jeez, I used to live right by El Cerrito. It’s just a tiny middle class suburb…
way too many old people!!!
I´m getting goosebumps^^….
